Short answer

Meta Tag Checker and SERP Preview: what it does

Google usually shows about 50–60 characters of a title and 150–160 of a description before cutting them. Put the keyword and the reason to click inside those limits.

Here's one we ran earlier.

A salon booking app landing page

  1. Title — 53 characters, fits

    Pass

Fits inside Google's usual limit. The keyword appears in the first five words.

  2. Description — 135 characters, fits

    Pass

Inside the 150–160 range. Has a price and a cancellation promise, both strong click reasons.

Three steps, no account.

Step 1

Lead with the search

Start the title with the words people type. The brand can go at the end, where a cut costs least.

Step 2

Sell the click in the description

Name the outcome, a concrete detail like price or time, and what happens next. Descriptions don't rank you, they win the click.

Step 3

One page, one pair

Every page needs its own title and description. Duplicates make Google rewrite them for you.

Common questions.

Why does Google rewrite my description?

When it doesn't match the search, is duplicated across pages, or is missing. A specific, page-unique description is rewritten less often.

Is the limit characters or pixels?

Pixels, about 580px for titles. Character counts are a close stand-in; wide letters like W and M use more room.

Do meta keywords still matter?

No. Google has ignored the keywords meta tag for over a decade.

Does this cost anything?

No. It's free, no account needed, and you can run it as many times as you like.
