Cold email
Lemlist vs Woodpecker
Lemlist is the better fit if your sequences mix email with LinkedIn steps and you want personalisation gimmicks that still work. Woodpecker suits teams who send plain text from a few inboxes and care mainly about not emailing someone twice.
- No affiliate links
- Public pricing only
- Updated by hand
These two have been around far longer than the current crop of unlimited-inbox tools, and it shows in the details: both have mature reply detection, both integrate with the usual CRMs, and both charge per sending seat rather than per mailbox.
That per-seat pricing is the catch. If your plan is fifty domains and hundreds of mailboxes, look at Instantly or Smartlead instead — these two are built for smaller, more careful sending.
Side by side
Lemlist and Woodpecker in short.
Lemlist
Multichannel sequences with email, LinkedIn steps, calls and personalised images or landing pages.
- Free
- Free plan is limited; a trial covers most evaluation.
- Paid from
- From roughly $39 per user per month
Good at
- LinkedIn steps and calls sit in the same sequence as email
- Personalised images and dynamic landing pages, which still lift reply rates when used sparingly
- Its own contact database is bundled on higher tiers
Weak at
- Priced per user, so scaling volume gets expensive
- Feature surface is wide enough that new users overbuild sequences
Woodpecker
Straightforward cold email with strong duplicate and reply protection, popular with agencies.
- Free
- No free plan; trial available.
- Paid from
- From roughly $29/month at low sending volumes
Good at
- Cheapest of the mature tools at small volumes
- Reply and duplicate detection across a whole team, so two reps never hit the same company
- Agency panel for managing client campaigns
Weak at
- Multichannel is thin next to Lemlist
- The interface looks its age
The differences
Where they actually diverge.
Pick one
Which one fits you.
Choose Lemlist if
- Your sequence needs a LinkedIn touch between emails
- You sell something visual and personalised images earn their keep
- You want a bundled contact database
Choose Woodpecker if
- You send modest volume and want the lowest sensible bill
- Several reps prospect the same market and duplicates are a real risk
- Plain text out of a real inbox is your whole strategy
When neither is the answer
If you need dozens of rotating mailboxes, both will price you out. That's what the unlimited-inbox tools exist for.
Questions
Common questions.
Do personalised images still work?
Less than they did in 2019. They lift replies when the image proves you looked at the prospect's site, and they hurt when they're an obvious template with a logo dropped in. Test on a hundred contacts before rolling out.
Which is safer for deliverability?
Neither is inherently safer. Volume per mailbox, domain age and reply rate matter far more than the sender you choose.
